SHAME

The voice that says you're the problem.

Shame is different from guilt. Guilt says "I did something bad." Shame says "I am bad." The Bible knows that voice — Adam and Eve hide; David tries to bury what he did; Peter weeps after denying Jesus. The whole arc of scripture is God walking toward people who are hiding and saying "where are you?" — not to expose them, but to bring them out.
